Inside Katherine Heigl's Winter Wonderland Wedding

Congratulations to “Grey’s Anatomy” star Katherine Heigl who wed her soulmate Josh Kelley on December 23rd. Please check out this exclusive cover story from OK! Magazine’s January 14th, 08 issue…

As the pink and peach hues of the winter sun began to set over the snow-covered mountains nestling around the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, Utah, Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl and her musician beau, Josh Kelley, said ” I do.” Unitarian minister Tom Goldsmith presided over the 30-minute ceremony, attended by 80 friends and family members. Having eschewed readings, the couple went straight to exchanging their vows, which were a combination of traditional and their own personal writings.

Supporting Katherine, 29, was her sister and matron of honor, Meg, and three bridesmaids. Josh, 27, who met his bride when she starred in the video for his 2005 single “Only You,” was joined by four groomsmen, including his younger brother Charles as best man and Katherine’s Grey’s co-star and best friend T.R. Knight. Grey’s cast members Sandra Oh and Justin Chambers and Private Practice star Kate Walsh were also there to cheer on the happy couple. “We’re elated,” Katherine tells OK!. Adds Josh: “This girl makes me want to be a better man.” Here, the happy couple shares the joy of their winterwedding with OK!.

How does it feel to be married?

Katherine: I’m with a person who not only brings enormous joy and laughter into my life but is also hugely grounded, smart, passionate and talented. Every moment I try to take too seriously, he helps me lighten up. It’s a blessing to know I can come home to somebody who cannot only make me laugh but validate who I am and respect me.

Josh: She’s beautiful and talented. I just love her.

Do you feel different?

Katherine: It’s such a build up, so what makes me nervous is that it’s just one day in the rest of your life. You have to plan for the day after and a lot of amazing stuff that goes along with being married. We just bought a house and have never lived together.

Josh: We don’t even sleep in the same bed when family is around!

Katherine: [Laughs] We’re totally respectful to our parents, and I’ve tried to keep a bit of the allure.

Your first home, how exciting!

Katherine: Yes! I bought my bachelorette pad when we got engaged. At the time, I thought, “This is really stupid because we’ll be moving in a year,” but I’m actually really grateful we did it. It was my place, I had it just the way I wanted it, and he had his place in Tennessee how he wanted it. But this new house means now we are in it together. It means com-promise on style, taste and how each one of us lives, how we don’t like to live and how we’re going to work it all out. It’s going to be an amazing place to start our lives together and start a family.

Josh, how did you propose?

I found the place where we shot the video [for “Only You”]. It was at a bungalow on Venice Beach [in California]. I convinced the people who own it to let me propose to Katie there! Luckily, the sky was clear, the stars were shining and she said yes!

How did you settle on a date?

Katherine: Originally, it was because I only get two weeks off a year for my Christmas vacation from [Grey’s] and [Josh] is touring in the summer. I don’t think either one of us was thinking a Christmas wedding, but then we got really excited about it. Oddly, though, with the writers’ strike, I’ve had five weeks off, so we could have gotten married in November.

Why Park City?

Katherine: We wanted to do it in a place that felt like a winter wonderland. Josh’s family used to come to Deer Valley [Resort in Utah] to ski during Christmas vacation. My mom and I are building houses up here. We incorporated lots of big evergreens in the reception with twinkle lights and Christmas decorations.

Why did you choose a Unitarian ceremony?

Katherine: We went pretty traditional because we wanted to set the tone for the marriage itself: faith in each other and loyalty and commitment.

Did you discuss your vows?

Katherine: No, it was a surprise!

Josh: I read mine to her mom [Nancy] because I needed to share it with someone who knows Katie very well, and there is no one better than Nancy. She loved them.

Who chose what at the wedding?

Josh: The music was my only task. There is a band called the Stingers who are one of the best wedding bands in the country. My manager just happens to manage them, so that was her wedding gift to us.

Katherine: We had to do a look at place settings last week, and he was like,”Thank you so much for not making me do all of this.” [laughs]

What was the most moving moment of the day?

Katherine: When Brandon Whyde sang as a tribute to my brother [Jason, who passed away in 1986] and Josh’s sister who died as a baby. They are two people who should’ve been there and weren’t. We wanted to honor them insome way.

How do you both stay sane in the public eye?

Josh: We remind each other to be humble.

Katherine: There are so many people rooting against you. You see in entertainment magazines how happy they are for you when you get married, and then six months later, they want to see you unhappy. We want to create a safe haven for ourselves in this home and in the tradition of marriage itself.

Do you plan to have children?

Katherine: My mother’s been saying lately that there is a family you’re born into and a family you choose. Josh is the family I am choosing. I’d like to start talking children seriously in the next year, but Josh feels more like two years, so we’ll probably do a year and a half. [laughs] I’m excited about having a big family. I’m talking five or six.

Josh: I love big families and I was raised in a family of six kids, but
my view is, “Let’s take it one day and one child at a time!”

Whose idea was it to haveT.R. Knight as a groomsman?

Josh: It was my idea because he’s become such a good friend. He’s a really solid, smart guy. [The bridesmaid rumor] was never the case. People just make things up. It starts to get really weird.

Katherine, describe your Oscar de la Renta wedding dress. It’s very
fitted and is the silhouette I always tend to do on the red carpet because it suits my particular body shape. It’s classic and elegant but also modern.I did a ’50s short-hat veil that came to my cheekbones. I am so thrilled. It’s so sad you only get to wear it for one day!

How did you choose your rings?

Katherine: Mine is a diamond-and-sapphire eternity band. I designed both with my jeweler Ryan Ryan, who also did the engagement ring and does all my red carpet jewelry. For Josh, since he’s a rocker,I wanted him to have a funky band, so it’s wide platinum.

Josh: It looks like it’s been woven; it twinkles a bit, like it has tiny
diamonds. I was kind of nervous about what she would have me wear, but I thought, “This girl’s cool; she’ll do something cool for me.”

What is on your registry?

Katherine: Fine china, silver, the stuff that our parents registered for. My mother’s wedding gifts will become family heirlooms. I was excited about getting new pots and pans.

Josh: I don’t really have any china or dishware that she would even consider bringing into the family. I was pretty excited when we were registering for really nice things.

Are there people you’re sad couldn’t attend the wedding?

Katherine: Some of the [Grey’s] cast members like Ellen Pompeo and Christopher, her husband. And Patrick [Dempsey] and [his wife] Jill, Eric[Dane] and [his wife] Rebecca [Gayheart], James Pickens and Sara [Ramirez]. They are all people I love.
Did you work out pre-wedding?

Katherine: Not so much for the wedding dress but for the bathing suit for my honeymoon. I am so paranoid now after what they did to Jennifer Love Hewitt! I’m like, “Oh, my god, if they think she looks bad then I’m screwed.” I should really take a note from her and not care so much - she looks amazing. She has a phenomenal body!

Are you ready for the honeymoon?

Josh: We just wanted to make sure we would both relax. I didn’t bring my big guitar.

Katherine: We’re going to Los Cabos, Mexico, and staying at Esperanza Resort. I am ready to sit on a beach and do nothing but read and lay in the sun.

Katherine Heigl weds musician Josh Kelley

Dr. Izzie has just gotten married. Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl has wed singer boyfriend Josh Kelly Sunday.

The affair took place in a private tent at the Stein Eriksen Lodge and lasted about 30 minutes. Co-stars T.R. Knight, Sandra Oh, and Kate Walsh attended the reception.

Officiated by Unitarian minister Tom Goldsmith, the 29-year-old Emmy award-winning actress walked down the aisle to a song written by Kelley. The couple wrote their own vows.

Sources say that the bride enjoyed a "really feminine and small" bridal shower.

The actress told Vanity Fair that she had no doubts about marriage. "It's a crapshoot. The odds are really bad, especially in this town. But I have a lot of faith in Josh, and I wanted to have that one day when I stand in front of my friends and my family and honor him and how important he is in my life."

Heigl met her future husband in 2005 when she appeared in the video for his song "Only You." They became engaged in 2006 and set the date in June 2007.
