Tom Cruise is set to play Hugh Hefner in a new biopic of the Playboy founder's life.
The 45-year-old actor is hot favourite to portray the 81-year-old lothario in upcoming movie 'Playboy' and is reportedly excited about the prospect of bringing Hefner's "colorful life" to the big screen.
A source close to the actor said: "Tom knows of Hugh's colourful past and thinks he would be the perfect person to bring it to the big screen. He also thinks the role would be a challenge for him, and would remind people of his versatility as an actor. At the moment people are concentrating on his personal life, and his marriage to Katie - but he wants to remind them that he can act too."
A spokesperson for the star has refused to confirm whether he has accepted the part.
They said: "A lot of people consider Tom for a lot of roles."

Between being husband to Katie Holmes, father to 18-month old Suri (as well as 12-year-old Connor and 14-year-old Isabella), a major movie star and co-owner of United Artists, there just isn't much time.
"Just like everybody else, you just work it out," Cruise tells "Entertainment Tonight" in an interview set to air Thursday. "We've gotten pretty good at organizing everything. I don't sleep much anyway."
Married life is "all very good, all very lovely," he says, adding that he feels "lucky" to have Holmes as his wife.
"I have a lot of respect for her as an artist, as a woman," he says. "She's a very strong, gracious woman. She's very funny, a great comedian."
Cruise says working with United Artists is "kind of like film school ... like a dorm with all hands on deck. We're all very supportive and very honest."
The 45-year-old actor also reveals he has plans to direct. "I will one day," he says. "I've always wanted to. I've been offered things to direct but have to find the right piece."
It's miles away from what was on his mind during his early days in Hollywood, when he was just worried about holding onto his job: "I remember lying in bed at 18 going, `Man, I just really hope I don't get fired.'"

Tom Cruise's Kids Shipped Off To Scientology Camp
Exalted High Priest of Scientology Tom Cruise has sent his kids off to Scientology Camp. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are all over Europe with baby Suri but their other children Isabella and Connor are noticeably absent.
They are reportedly at a camp run by the Church of Scientology.
According to a source who attended the camp, “The summer camp is part of the Scientology’s ‘get them while they’re young’ campaign. While they will be enjoying horseback riding, swimming and all kinds of fun activities, some of their day is devoted to Scientology coursework.” Star Magazine reported.

11 extras Injured During Filming Of Tom Cruise Movie
Eleven extras were injured when they fell out of a truck during filming of a new movie starring Tom Cruise, police said Monday.
The 11 were taken to hospital as filming stopped on the movie, provisionally titled Valkyrie, which stars Cruise as Germany's most famous anti-Hitler plotter, Col. Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg.
All but one of the 11 were treated and released. The extent of the 11th man's injuries from Sunday's accident was not clear. Another person who fell out of the truck was unhurt.
Germany's Bild daily reported that Cruise himself was not involved in the weekend filming.
Police said in a statement that a bolt on a side panel of the truck apparently came loose as the vehicle turned.
The accident happened during filming of scenes around the Finance Ministry in Berlin, which was once the Nazis' aviation ministry.
Cruise's casting has attracted controversy in Germany because the actor is one of the best-known adherents of Scientology, which the German government considers a commercial enterprise that takes advantage of vulnerable people.
Some critics maintain that one of its members should not be playing what some consider one of the Nazi era's few heroes.
