The British historical romance film ‘Atonement’ lead the competition in nominations for the 2008 Golden Globe Awards with nods in seven categories.
Keira Knightley has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for the romantic epic and her co-star James McAvoy picked up the same honour in the Best Actor category. Joe Wright has also received a Best Director nod for the critically lauded adaptation of Ian McEwan’s 2001 novel.

De band die opgericht is in 1968 en uit elkaar gevallen is in 1980 heeft een reunie aangekondigd! na de dood van de Drummer John Bonham( die levenloos in zijn kamer gevonden was, gestikt in zijn eigen kots) zijn ze gestopt met muziek maken.

Be wary of using the word genius when describing a musician. Once, we championed Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails as such (hey, it was around the time of 1994's The Downward Spiral, which is pretty awesome).

But our comment elicited immediate scorn from our classically trained friend. "Beethoven is a genius," he said, looking down upon us in a manner familiar to classically trained musicians, "not the half-wit you're talking about."

Given our past predilections, when fellow TC arts reporter Adrian Chamberlain sent our way a list of the Top 100 Living Geniuses, as published last week by Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, we approached it with hesitation.

We couldn't resist the opportunity to create our very own Top 10 list citing our favourite pop, rock, country and rap geniuses. Musical snobs likely won't agree -- as payback, we aren't including classical composers or musicians -- but this is our list, not theirs. So there.

1. Rick Rubin. Anyone who can produce speed metal act Slayer and country king Johnny Cash -- in the same year -- deserves to top our list. Rubin, via his rap record label, Def Jam, brought us the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy; his rock record label, Def American, gave us the Black Crowes and System of a Down. On the side, he worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Dixie Chicks and Neil Diamond. No one has created more meaningful music in the modern era than Rubin. Choice recording: 99 Problems, from Jay-Z's The Black Album.

2. Jimi Hendrix. By pioneering the use of sustained feedback in rock music, Hendrix catapulted past everyone in the late 1960s, including the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. His mastery of the electric guitar has drawn frequent comparisons to classical composers for its sheer brilliance. Hendrix, who died of a drug overdose at 27, arguably will never be surpassed. Choice recording: Red House, from Are You Experienced?

3. Prince. His ability to survive lawsuits and trends, along with a controversial name change, has kept Prince in the spotlight for much of his 30-year career. He's bizarre and contradictory, but his challenging melange of funk, blues and rock has nonetheless earned him a place among rock royalty. Choice recording: Purple Rain, from Purple Rain.

4. Dr. Dre. When rappers and singers want that "Dre sound" -- a laidback groove bursting with big beats, tinkling pianos and THC-induced keyboards -- they pay as much as $2 million for the famed producer, who is credited with popularizing previously unknown rappers Snoop Dogg, Eminem, the Game and 50 Cent. Choice recording: Still D.R.E., from 2001.

5. Bob Dylan. The degree of deception at Bob Dylan's disposal is limitless. He's an irreverent folkie -- no wait, a babbling bluesman. Or is he a latent protest singer? Whatever hat he's wearing, or instrument he's playing, Dylan prides himself on being a paradox. Still capable of brilliance at 66, Dylan continues to surprise. Choice recording: Tryin' to Get to Heaven, from Time Out of Mind.

6. The Beatles. The Fab Four are an obvious choice, given their past contributions. But it is important to remember the state of the music world at the time of their arrival. They changed everything for the better, and became the world's biggest-selling group in the process. Choice recording: Norwegian Wood, from Rubber Soul.

7. Björk. One of the best debuts in history is 1993's Debut, a dizzying and slightly disturbing dance-pop classic that reinvented this former Sugarcubes frontwoman as an Icelandic island unto herself. Weird? David Lynch is weird. Björk is seriously freaky. But in a good way. Choice recording: Human Behaviour, from Debut.

8. Muddy Waters. Never has the blues been more effective than when performed by one of its great pioneers, Muddy Waters. When he had his mojo working, the hoochie koochie man's kinetic music was a direct extension of his libido, his piston-chugging voice a garrulous weapon of mass destruction. Gritty ain't the half of it. Choice recording: Mannish Boy, from Hard Again.

9. Ray Charles. They didn't call him The Genius for nothing: Brother Ray, blind since the age of seven, remains one of the most adored performers in pop history. His contributions to numerous genres (soul, country, jazz, pop, gospel) have earned him hall of fame status many times over. A little lovin' went a long way with Ray. Choice recording: What'd I Say, from Yes Indeed!

10. Sam Cooke. If Cooke, who was shot at 33 under suspicious circumstances, had made it out of the 1960s, more fans would be hip to the Man Who Invented Soul. The singer of 29 Top 40 hits between 1957 and 1965, Cooke was, simply put, one of the greatest. He's also sorely underrated. Choice recording: A Change is Gonna Come, from Ain't That Good News.

Imagine if a major automobile manufacturer came up with a way to use an onboard computer to require that you buy gasoline from a particular company. It's the same gas you can buy anywhere, but unless the pump includes special circuitry only available to a single company that paid a bunch of money to the car's manufacturer for the privilege, the gas tank can't be filled. Now let's say that an enterprising individual wants to choose his own gas station, so he comes up with a way to reprogram the car's computer, allowing the owner to fill the gas tank from any pump at any gas station. Let's finally suppose that there's a recall on the car, requiring owners to bring them into a dealership for free repairs, but while the car is being fixed, every dealer is required to check the fuel tank computer to make sure it hasn't been tampered with to allow gas from non-approved sources, and disable the car's engine if evidence of tampering is found. When irate owners complain to dealership management they're simply told that a license agreement they agreed to by driving off the lot voids the car's warranty, and another on a piece of paper they signed to get the recall work done allows the dealership to modify the car in whatever way the manufacturer wants, so basically there's nothing they can do.

It sounds like a ludicrous situation, but it's not as far fetched as it may seem at first. Replace the word car with mobile phone, and choosing your own gas station with choosing your own wireless provider, and you've got something that looks a lot like Apple's apparent plan for the iPhone. Earlier this week Apple announced a major update to the iPhone. Unfortunately for iPhone owners who have unlocked their phones to use them on networks other than AT&T, the update will also cause their phones to cease working at all. The phones appear to be in the same pre-activation state as when they're new, but they can't be actived with a non-AT&T SIM (which requires the phone to be unlocked) or the original AT&T SIM that came with the phone.

Additionally, iPhones that have been hacked to allow unauthorized third party software to be installed will be modified, although they won't stop working. Instead, all software not specifically allowed by Apple simply disappears.

An announcement from Apple did make it clear that software for unlocking the phones "will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed." When asked for clarification, an Apple representative stated that the company is not "proactively trying to disable any iPhone that has been hacked or unlocked by software," However, this seems to contradict a statement made by CEO Steve Jobs last week. At a London press conference officially announcing the iPhone's availability in the UK he said “It’s a cat and mouse game. We play it on iPods with DRM. We try to stay ahead. I’m not sure if we are the cat or the mouse. People will try to break in, and it’s our job to stop them breaking in.”

Despite the contradictory company statements, one major clue seems to stand out. Although the unlocked phones become inactive after the update, and can't even be used on AT&T's network, they can still make emergency (911) calls, as mandated by the FCC. In other words, the one thing that would have ensured a government investigation if it didn't work is the only thing that does. Though this certainly doesn't prove anything conclusively, it does raise legitimate questions that someone in the government should be asking.

Unless it can be proven that Apple is intentionally targeting unlocked iPhones with their updates, consumers have little or no recourse. If, however, a government investigation were to find that this is exactly what Apple is doing, it would drag the practices of tech companies like Apple (and many others) into the light for the kind of public scrutiny most other industries face.

If the scenario were truly one of an automobile manufacturer getting paid to ensure their cars only accepted gas from a single company there would be hearings in Congress starting next week. If it was determined to be legal, you can be sure a law would quickly be passed to outlaw it. Instead, since it's computer technology, which to paraphrase author Arthur C. Clarke seems indistinguishable from magic to lawmakers, the public appears to be left to their own devices for solving the problem.

A warranty that's void because of tampering with a device is fairly standard and certainly legal, although perhaps morally questionable when it comes to simple software modifications. Taking advantage of that to break legally purchased devices because their use runs counter to the manufacturer's business model isn't standard. If this is, in fact, Apple's strategy it also removes any questions about the plans immorality. If they want to keep their grip on the mobile device market apparently considered key to the company's future plans, they'd be well advised to consider all their customers, including the ones who think their $400 phone should work on any compatible network they choose.

Weer een breaktrough in de chip industrie. Een leuke deze keer.
Normaal om micro groeven te maken in een chip [nano schaal] gebruiken ze dus een electron laser die lijn voor micron lijn groeven slaat in het oppervlak waar de chip dus zijn layout aan dankt. Maar nu hebben ze wat nieuws gevonden.

Ze pakken 2 grond lagen leggen ze op elkaar, verhitten en RUK trekken de lagen los van elkaar.

Wat er gebeurt is dat er een micro fractuur ontstaat over de 2 oppervlaktes die perfect lijn recht naast elkaarl open over het volledige oppervlakte of te wel holbewoner power word toegepast op nano schaal. Gewoon open scheuren komt alles goed in de chip industrie.

Toeval zoals dat, dacht neit dat ik dat nog zou mee maken en zeker niet op zo`n kleine schaal haha.

Nou net als het andere topic, zegt de titel het al.. Wat is je favoriete film, waarom is het je favoriete film. Heeft het een strak verhaal, of is het einde juist zo boeiend..

Ik begin weer:

Mijn favoriete film is met stipt op 1 : Boondock Saints, een relatief oude film uit 2000:

Hij gaat over 2 ierse broers die een missie van God hebben gekregen om al het kwaad in boston uit te roeien.

De film is voor mij echt geweldig want het acteer werk van de 2 broers is geniaal, humoristisch en af en toe ook de nodige drama. Dus voor mij Boondock saints!

Nou toch maar eens een media cafe geopend hierzo. Vond dat het tijd is om te zien wat de mede whoozzers luisteren kwa "herrie:D"

Dus laat hier maar weten wat je favoriete band is. En niet alleen een naam maar omschrijf ook waarom en als je een nummer hebt waarvan je vindt dat we dat moeten horen.Postmaar raak!

ik zal even beginnen,

Mijn Favo band op dit moment is toch echt Dream Theater, Dat is een amerikaanse progressive metal band. Die gasten zijn zo hooggeschoold(berkley college of music and arts) Ze staan al 20 jaar aan de top van de progressive metal. Mede door de Gitaarriffs van John Petrucci, die zo snel zijn dat het gewoon eng is.Afgewisseld met de keyboard solo's van Jordan Rudess maakt dit toch wel een sterk punt van het repetoire van Dream Theater

Zijn er nog mensen uit Rotterdam (e.o) naar Trailerpop gegaan? Ik ben wel fftjes gegaan, Epica trad gratis op. Was wel gezellig, maar verrekte klein..Het werd gehouden in een woonwijk! ook niet echt slim maargoed
