Manuela Kemp vindt zichzelf 'behoorlijk mannelijk'. "Ik kan ook niet, zoals een gemiddelde vrouw, duizend dingen tegelijk doen", vertelt ze zaterdag in de Vrouw-bijlage van De Telegraaf. Ook een kinderwens is haar vreemd. "Ik heb nooit de behoefte gehad om moeder te worden. Zal wel een tekort aan vrouwelijke hormonen zijn."

Ondanks haar lage stem en stoere imago voelt de 44-jarige blondine zich geen rouwdouwer. "Iedereen denkt dat ik zo stoer ben, dat ik mijn mannetje sta, maar ik ben behoorlijk gevoelig en emotioneel", bekent ze. "Ik heb jarenlang een hekel aan mijn stem gehad en probeerde krampachtig een octaaf hoger te praten. Ik wilde ook dolgraag heupen."

De zangeres, die als presentatrice is te horen bij radiozender Arrow Classic Rock, is inmiddels zeer tevreden met zowel haar stem als haar figuur. Ook met haar vrijgezelle status heeft ze geen problemen. "Ik vind het ook steeds comfortabeler worden om alleen te wonen", zegt ze. "Als ik thuiskom, ligt alles er nog precies zo bij als ik het heb achtergelaten. De handdoeken op de juiste plaats, de melk in de koelkast. Ik weet niet of ik nog wel in staat ben om een huishouden te delen. Ik zou vast ontzettend gaan zeuren."
