 Jay-Z staat volgend jaar niet langer aan het hoofd van Def Jam Records. De Amerikaanse rapper laat in een verklaring weten dat hij vertrekt zodra zijn contract eind dit jaar afloopt.
Shawn Carter, zoals de hiphopartiest eigenlijk heet, is na drie jaar toe 'aan nieuwe uitdagingen'. Hij blijft muziek maken voor zijn eigen label Roc-A-Fella, dat onder Def Jam valt.
De 38-jarige vriend van r&b-ster Beyoncé is een van de rijkste hiphopmagnaten. Het rapicoon, van wie vorige maand het album 'American gangster' verscheen, verdiende vorig jaar naar schatting meer dan 25 miljoen euro.

Jay-Z To Wed Beyonce Knowles 'Soon'
Jay-Z has vowed to marry his long-term love Beyonce Knowles "soon".
The couple started dating in late 2002 after recording duet '03 Bonnie + Clyde, but remain furiously private over their relationship. The rapper, real name Shawn Carter, was asked by reporters at a press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday (06Sep07) if he planned to make 26-year-old Knowles his bride in the future.
The 37-year-old said, "One day, soon - let's leave it at that." When asked if he would consider marrying in Vegas, Carter replied, "I don't know. It's kind of comfortable here." Carter is planning to open his third 40/40 nightclub in the Palazzo Hotel in Vegas in December (07).
